I have purchased a large farm in a remote area in the western fjords of Iceland called "Otradalur".

The location is at 65 degrees 39 minutes 49.2 seconds North, 23 degrees 33 minutes, 58.8 West (in decimal 65.6623N, -23.56802W)

The Locator is HP85FP

I have built a Rhombic antenna in the direction of Japan. It is 13 meters high in the air, each leg is 64 meters, the tilt angle is 67 degrees and the total length is 120 meters. The gain on 20M is 17 dBi and on 10 M the gain is 20.9 dBi.

I have built another rhombic antenna in the direction of Europe (110 degrees). This rhombic has the same dimensions as the JA rhombic except the tilt angle is 64 degrees (arrl compromise design).

I am now able to switch instantly between the two antennas and when I have finished the work, I will be able to switch the JA rhombic between short path and long path.

I plan a rhombic for the US and this antenna will be much larger than the other two. I have acquired two 26 metre poles for this antenna and hope to build it before winter.

from QST, September 1942:

Book review of "Rhombic Antenna Design" by A. E. Harper.

"...Obviously useful for engineers engaged in the design of communications circuits, this book also should be

valuable to the amateur with engineering background in that happy day when rhombics again can get to work pushing ham

signals to the far corners of the earth"

62 years later that day has now arrived.

I use a Yaesu FT1000MP Mark V into an Emtron DX-3 Linear Amplifier at 1KW and a Yaesu FT1000MP Mark V Field into an Emtron DX-2SP Linear Amplifier at 1KW. The station is set up for SO2R with WriteLog and the W5XD/k5DJ Multi-Keyer.
