Amateur Radio Operator since 1976. My first call sign was VE3IVQ. Became an Advanced Amateur Operator a year later. For the first year I mostly spent my time on CW. My previous call signs are VE3IVQ (Ontario) DA1EN (Germany), VE6CMY (Alberta) and VE7IHR (BC).
Currently I hold the call signs V Y 2 H R and V Y 2 I H R
During my posting in Germany (1982) I became a member of CFARS (Canadian Forces Affiliate Radio Service) (like MARS in the USA) of which I still am an active member.
In June 2012 we both fully retired and moved from BC to Prince Edward Island (PE). We purchased a nice house situated on 4 acres (1.6 Hectare) overlooking the river enjoying our retirement. Finally, I have space to erect my tower again and lots of room to work with different antenna configurations.
Above picture: My recently (October 2015) constructed 40 M vertical made from an old 3 inch (7.5 cm) diameter KLM 203 BA boom. Cut it to 32 Ft 6" (10.8 M) and currently use sixteen 32 ft (10 M) radials with it. So far it works great. I might add more radials to it...just to see how that works out. It also nicely resonates on the 15 M band.
Above: 2013 Erecting my 48 Ft (14.6 M) Delhi HD tower.
48 Ft Tower: Fritzel 3 element 20 - 15 - 10 M beam. Above that a 17 M rotatable dipole which was salvaged from an old KLM 203 BA antenna and converted for use on 17M .
Inverted Vee dipoles for 80 - 30 - 12 M.
Vertical antenna for 40 M
Station equipment; Yaesu FT 100D mainly used on digital modes with a SCS PTC-IIex modem for WinLink.
Kenwood TM 741 A for VHF / UHF / 6M FM.
Mobile / Portable Ops: Yaesu FT 8900 VHF/UHF /10M and 6M FM. When required, my FT100 D with a screwdriver antenna for HF and 6 M.
