I did most of my growing up in the Minneapolis, Minnesota area. I was in the Coast Guard for four years. My first ship was the USCGC Androscoggin, where I learned morse code as part of my visual signaling chores. I also was stationed on a bouy tender, the USCGC Hollyhock and, for a time, ran a 40 foot search and rescue boat.  It was a great experience for me. After my time in the Coast Guard I went back to school to become a Special Education teacher.  I worked with all kinds of kids from elementary through alternative education. I enjoyed my whole career! A 32 year career flew by in the wink of an eye!

My uncle was a HAM (W0IZ now SK) from Cedar Rapids, IA. He sparked an interest that came back when it was time to find a hobby. My brother-in-law (KO1F) encouraged me and still teaches me things every time we get a chance to meet. One of the things I remember most about my uncle was the huge number of QSO cards he had from all over the world. I loved those cards! As a result, I enjoy QSO direct. You don't even have to use envelopes, postmarks on the cards add character.  If you don't send cards, that's ok, thanks for taking the time for me. I also use LoTW for those who would rather not send a card.

I have been working CW. My FISTS number is 15491. My SKCC Number is 9081T.   Most of my radio time is in the CW portions of the bands.

I am a member of the local Radio Club (Hiawatha Valley Amateur Radio Club, Red Wing, MN) and have enjoyed the other HAMs and the events we have had. I have lots to learn, and these people know alot and are willing to share!

I have re-worked my shack!  A new desk and a re-organization made all the difference!  I am enjoying my new work station!

Hope to hear from you!

See you down the log, 73
