I was first licensed in 1954 as WN3ZXP, soon to be W3ZXP.  In 1959 I moved to North Carolina and became W4KEP. While I have been continuously licensed, I was inactive from the late 1970's until 2015.  I retired from Virginia Tech's Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in 2010, and one of my retirement projects has been restoring the antique transmitters and receivers I had collected over the years.  Testing them on the air got me interested in operating again, and I got back on the air in 2015. I have complete and working ham stations from the 1970's, 1960's and 1950's, as well as a modern rig.

My professional career involved RF design for communications satellites, fixed wireless, public safety and disaster communications, and cognitive radio.
