2016 ARRL 160 Meter CW Contest

14 of our members converged on Scooter’s Sargent QTH for the contest on December 2nd- 4th.  We appreciated the wonderful hospitality and great food for the two nights of this contest.  Thanks to our gracious and patient host Scooter for making this another memorable event.  The 160m band was in excellent condition on Friday night.  Saturday night was challenging because of high noise levels from the passing storms.  We exceeded our last three years’ performance by logging 282 contacts and 79 multipliers which tallied up to 45,000 points.  The log has been submitted and the final results will be published next fall in QST.  2016 ARRL 160m CW Contest Pictures

The antenna system for the 160m contest is shown in the picture at the right. It consisted of a 60 ft. aluminum tower to support the apex of the wire.  The wire ran from an automatic marine tuner at the base of the tower vertically to the apex and across the canal as shown.  The antenna when combined with Scooter's extensive grounding system tied into the saltwater worked extremely well. Scooter, WD5KBY our gracious host and purveyor of superb cuisine for the 160m contest is shown in the picture below.
