Thibodaux Amateur Radio Club hobbyists share a passion for long-range radio communications and an abiding desire to assist local emergency responders, as needed, during hurricane recovery operations and during other incidents when immediate and reliable communications capabilities are required.

W5YL is affiliated with the ARRL and is a Special Services Club.

The club has also been a long time Field Day participant. Until recent years the club set up for Field Day at the Thibodaux High School stadium in Thibodaux, Louisiana. For the last few years we participated in Field Day jointly with the neighboring Bayouland Emergency Amateur Radio Service (BEARS) club in Morgan City, Louisiana. In 2014 and 2015 our club conducted Field Day from the Terrebonne Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness in Houma, Louisiana.

Our club currently maintains two 2 meter repeaters:

(1) Gray, Louisiana~~ 147.390MHz+ (Tone 114.8 Hz) at 325 feet

(2) Theriot, Louisiana~~ 147.300MHz + (Tone 114.8Hz, Echolink:703462 and IRLP:8402) at 550 feet

The Theriot repeater is a Yaesu Fusion DR-1X Digital/Analog repeater teamed together with a HENRY 100 watt amplifier, while the Gray repeater is a Kenwood TKR-750 teamed with an ARCOM RC-210 controller.

Both repeaters are both open to any licensed amateur radio operator.

Business meetings are held the first Monday night of each month from 7:15 till 8:30 P.M. at the North Branch Terrebonne Parish Library in Gray, LA, across from HL Bourgeois High School. On the third Monday night of each month, we have a social event at 6:30 PM--for monthly social event locations check http://www.w5yl.org/ or email w5yl.thibodaux.arc_at_gmail.com.

We conduct Net Meetings on the second, fourth, and fifth Monday of each month on W5YL repeater, 147.390MHz + (Tone 114.8 Hz). Any licensed amateur is welcome to check in.

The Thibodaux Amateur Radio Club provides testing for all levels of ham licenses on the first Monday of each month at 6:45 P.M. at the North Branch Terrebonne Parish Library, right before the monthly business meetings. We also set up instruction classes for groups who would like to have our instructors coach them on the theory, practices, and regulations required to pass the FCC test. Our classes are free, but there is a one time fee of $14.00 to take the test. FCC licenses are currently issued for 10 years and are free to renew if done directly through the FCC website.

Please contact us in advance if you would like to set up a class or take the test at one of our business meetings:  w5yl.thibodaux.arc_at_gmail.com.
