Will we do this again next year

September 8 - 16 2018

 Thanks everyone for participating

OK everybody - this is fun

W6P made 4361 contacts in 2017 - another good year

(2 stations not reporting)

See below for link to HOST website.

HELP us make more contacts in 2018 than any previous year.  Please work us on all bands and modes, anywhere you find us.  It is YOUR contact we count so only YOU can do it.

W6P , the St. Louis, MO area of Route 66 On-The-Air stations made in 2017 and in previous years 4361,3744,4087,4012, 3476, 4825, and 2504 for a total of 27009 in the last 7 years. Hope you were one of them. We want to thank everyone who contacted us. YOU are the ones who make this Special Event a success. Our excitement grows each year and it appears yours does too. Thank you.

Find us, work us, All bands, All modes. We have D-Star, and on the W0SLW repeater we also have Echolink (Node 472144 or N0OBG-R for access) available again this year for contacts into our area through our repeaters. We will be answering your call on this end on the air through our repeater. We will monitor the repeater as much as possible. Try again if we didn't answer. Connect and call to W6P Route 66 On-The-Air. This will give you the repeater endorsement on your certificate as it did for our caller from Australia one previous year.  Most of you will have no other way of obtaining the repeater endorsement.

Contact us on the air or via email to KG0KP for a schedule on some modes. We will be on Phone, CW, PSK, RTTY, JT-65, and FT-8 (others too?).  Some of you place us on the cluster (http://www.dxsummit.fi/Search.aspx) so watch the cluster for spots to locate frequencies and modes for all R66 stations.  I also try to watch the cluster so if you don't have access, call us on the air and we will try to find the station you are looking for.  Searching spots for "W6" only will show all stations locations.

Each station along the route handles their own individual QSL cards.

QSL for W6P ONLY is SASE to KG0KP via QRZ address.

The Route 66 Special Event host website is http://www.w6jbt.org/ .

This event is in celebration of the "Mother Road" running from Chicago to Santa Monica California. This was the first improved road built to connect the central US to the west coast. Many of us have driven the Mother Road and remember the car we were in and the experiences we had along the way. Working this event we hear the stories from those who still remember their trip. Parts of the original Route 66 still exist even though the modern interstate system which began in the 1950s has now replaced it and bypassed most of the route. Look for the portions along the way that remain. Several sections now have nice museums as well.  The Route 66 State Park here in Missouri is at Exit 266 on I 44. Some of our operators will be operating from the park again this year.  Stop by and say hi.

This event is growing every year. Each year we have about 20 stations, W6A through W6U currently. Many of our Fixed stations are also running mobile operations as /Mobile and any of our mobiles may be worked for the mobile endorsement. Our EchoLink connection will allow anyone to get their repeater endorsement (we answer on the air on this end). Endorsements available are CW, phone, digital, repeater, and mobile. Only a single contact is necessary on each mode and can be made with any of our stations to get credit for that endorsement. Make sure the "W6_/Mobile"is entered as your contact for that station.

See the host website for more details and information about the stations and locations as well as the endorsements available for the Route 66 On-The-Air certificate, GO FOR A "CLEAN SWEEP". You do NOT have to work all stations and all modes ("endorsements") to get the certificate. Your Route 66 On-The-Air certificate from our host will have those stations and modes checked that you DID work and the others will not be marked as worked. The Route 66 On-The-Air certificate application is available from the host site only. Use the application as a worksheet. Do not forget to include each unique mode on the station worked if you worked them on more than one mode. For instance if you work all CW and want credit for the one call you made on phone and one on digital, etc, make sure you have each unique mode entered on your worked sheet as your contact with that station and not the CWcontact you had already written in.

The contact and/or QSL manager for each site is also listed on the host website. Some of the stations have made QRZ entries. Some do not have websites and have loaded the information to the QRZ entry.

We have a lot of fun on this end too so come back and work us wherever you find us. I won't run you off if you come back to chat in slack times either. If you have a special band or mode you want to work, come back when things slow down and I will see if we can work it out or we can make a schedule. I also try to keep up with where our other Route 66 Special Event stations are running via the spots YOU, our callers, place, hint.

THANKS for participating and helping to make this Special Event a success.

Note 2011 event total was over 25,000 contacts, and in 2017 47176+ !!!

Thank YOU and come see us again this September 8 - 16, 2018.

We need YOU.

73, de Jim KG0KP
