HOME BREW STEREO VACUUM TUBE AMPLIFIER

HOME BREW VACUUM TUBE STEREO AMPLIFIER USING FOUR 6V6GT AND TWO 12AX7A TUBES. THE AMPLIFIER WAS BUILT FROM COMPONENTS I HAD IN MY JUNK BOX AND NO ADDITIONAL PARTS WERE PURCHASED. IT'S ONE GREAT SOUNDING HI-FI AMP USING A MODIFIED WILLIAMSON CIRCUIT ALONG WITH SOME OF MY OWN IDEAS. I'M IN THE PROCESS OF REMOVING THE PARTS FROM THIS AMP TO BUILD A MUCH NICER AMPLIFIER PAYING MORE ATTENTION TO DETAIL AND PROBABLY USING FOUR 6L6 OR 6CA7'S INSTEAD OF THE 6V6'S IN THIS AMP.

HOME BREW SINGLE-TUBE REGENERATIVE RECEIVER

I USED A 1941 CIRCUIT FOUND IN A BOY SCOUT ARTICLE WHICH WAS A REPRINT OF

A 1920 REGENERATIVE RADIO. WW2 WAS ABOUT TO BREAK OUT IN THE EARLY 40'S

CAUSING AN EXTREME SHORTAGE OF ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS. THIS DESIGN USED

PARTS PULLED FROM USED RADIOS AND HOME MADE WOUND COILS, ETC.

I WAS SO IMPRESSED WITH THE PERFORMANCE OF THIS SINGLE DUAL-TRIODE

TUBE RECEIVER THAT I ACTUALLY USE IT ON THE AIR WITH VINTAGE

TRANSMITTERS LIKE THE GLOBE SCOUT 680 AND HEATHKIT DX-60. THE RECEIVER USES A 1938 SHOULDER-TYPE 6C8G VACUUM TUBE.

A LITTLE HIGH-TEC  HOME BREW            (LEFT TO RIGHT)

(THESE PHASING RECEIVERS REALLY PERFORM AND THE AUDIO HAS TO BE HEARD TO BE BELIEVED. IN SPITE OF THEIR SMALL SIZE AND SOMEWHAT SIMPLE DESIGN, THEY ARE SUPERB COMMUNICATIONS RECEIVERS)

MY TEN TEC RX-320 HF RECEIVER  --- These software defined radios are real performers with great selectivity and audio.

VERY GOOD GROUND CONDUCTIVITY IN MY RIVERBOTTOMS QTH.

SIDE BY SIDE TESTS WITH THE FAN DIPOLE AT 70 FEET, THE HY-TOWER

WAS GENERALLY 2 TO 3 "S-UNITS" BETTER ON 40 AND 80 METERS. ON 20 METERS THE

HY-TOWER WAS ABOUT EQUAL WITH THE 4 ELEMENT BEAM ON MOST SIGNALS.

QRN WAS 1 TO 2 "S-UNITS" HIGHER ON THE HY-TOWER WITH THE GROUND

SYSTEM KEEPING IT LOWER THAN IT WOULD HAVE BEEN.

FOR LIGHTNING PROTECTION AND STATIC

DISCHARGE SIX 8 FOOT GROUND RODS WERE

INSTALLED AROUND THE BASE OF THE ANTENNA.

THE HY-TOWER ALSO HAS THE 160 METER LOADING COIL INSTALLED.

YET TO BE TESTED.

OVERALL I AM VERY PLEASED WITH THE HYGAIN HY-TOWER

AS IT WORKS WELL ENOUGH ON ALL BANDS TO BE THE ONLY ANTENNA I WILL

NEED AS I GET OLDER. EVERYTHING CAN BE REPAIRED

AT GROUND LEVEL AND THERE IS LITTLE POTENTIAL FOR ANY WIND DAMAGE.

ESTATE SALE

I recently purchased the estate of a local Silent Key and I'm in the process of repairing and restoring the vintage equipment. Here is a partial listing: Omni-6, Argonaunt 5, National NC-183D RX, NOS R-390A RX, SX-100 RX, HT-37 TX, Icom IC-551 6M Transceiver, CV-591 SSB Adaptor, NC-109 RX, MFJ 300 Watt Intellituner, AT -100 Pro 150 Watt Antenna Tuner, Palstar AT1KP KW Antenna Tuner, Ten Tec RX-320 Software Receiver, Yaesu FV-301 Remote VFO, COLLINS 32V-3 TX,  Drake TR-44B HF RX/TX Combo,  SX-42 RX, SP600 RX, R-392 RX,  Astron RS-20A Pwr Sply, Astron RS-35A, Kent CW Paddles, Schurr CW Paddle, Russian Home Made CW Paddle, Several CW Bugs & Straight Keys, lots of test equipment including the famous Navy SG-85C Signal generator, Eico Tube Checker plus tons of NOS tubes and components

                                                                   CENTRAL ELECTRONICS 200V

THE 200V TRANSMITTER SOLD FOR $795 IN 1960. QUITE A SUM IN THOSE DAYS

AND ONLY 500 OF THESE WERE MADE SO THEY ARE QUITE RARE TODAY.

MANY CONSIDER THE 200V TO BE THE BEST AND MOST COMPLICATED

VACUUM TUBE HAM RADIO TRANSMITTER EVER PRODUCED.  AFTER SETTING THE CONTROLS

BEHIND THE FRONT PANEL DOORS THE TRANSMITTER WAS COMPLETELY BROADBANDED.

YOU MERELY CHANGED TO THE BAND YOU WANTED AND THEN SET THE VFO. THAT WAS IT.  NO DRIVER,

PLATE TUNING OR LOADING CONTROLS. THE FIRST OF IT'S KIND NOT TO BE SEEN AGAIN

UNTIL THE SOLID STATE RADIOS CAME OUT MANY YEARS LATER.  IT USED TWO

"6550" ULTRA LINEAR HI-FI TYPE TUBES IN THE FINAL PRODUCING 100 WATTS OUTPUT.

THE 200V DRIFTED LESS THAN 100 HERTZ PER HOUR AFTER WARMUP LIKE THE COLLINS RADIOS.

HOME BREW AUDIO FILTERS

I'VE BUILT SEVERAL OF THESE CW AUDIO FILTERS FOR MY VINTAGE RADIOS

(FAR LEFT PIC)  WW2 "TCS TRANSMITTER" & "RBM RECEIVER"

Almost done restoring these WW2 Military HF radios. The transmitter required lots of rebuilding but it now puts out a clean CW and AM signal on 160, 80 and 40 meters. The middle and right pictures show where they were typically used in the 1940's

Polar, my Frenchie, told me to stay home!

All of the equipment was in need of repairs

which I have completed. Can't wait to pile

all of these radios on top of all the other radios

 1948 GE B&W TV RESTORED 04-28-17

1940's B&W TV's WERE DISTINGIUSED BY SMALL ROUND

PICTURE TUBES AND CABINETS MAKING THEM IDEAL

COLLECTORS ITEMS.  B&W SETS MADE AFTER 1950

CARRY LITTLE OR NO VALUE.
