I have been a ham about a year and a half , it was a retirement present to myself, something I wanted to do for years but either had no time or money. For HF I currently have a Icom IC-7200 running off of a battery from a computer center UPS (125 amphours) with an end fed random wire hanging from a tree outside my shack. For VHF and UHF I have a Kenwood TM-V71A in my truck and a Yaesu FT1DR handheld radio.

I spent my working years as a Steamfitter doing service work on HVAC equipment. The last several years I worked mostly with digital control systems for larger buildings. I now teach trade courses part time at the local training center. That helps me afford my new hobby! When I started out years ago I wanted to be an electronic tech and got a degree in that but the year I graduated the Navy dumped a bunch of ET's on the market and I couldn't compete. So I started fixing air conditioners and went from there. No regrets it has been a great run.

I am currently learing CW so If you are reading this after hearing me on CW understand that I am a newbe at this.

I hope to get my Extra licence before the change the questions in June. More to come......... I passed my extra test  on 5/28/16 so now I just have to work on my CW skills.
