Started out as WN2RYV, then WB2RYV as a teenager. Had a lot of fun with it (including one night coordinating a medical emergency evac from the South Pole to McMurdo Sound from my bedroom in Long Island), but didn't always keep up with it after I went to college and started my career. At some point I missed a renewal and had to get re-licensed (2008) as KB1QBZ, and then switched back to my original call sign.  But over the years I've noticed that the phonetics for WB2RYV are so long that in the time it takes me to get out my call sign once, that DX station I'm trying to call has had two QSOs and gone QRT, so I've gone for a shorter callsign.

Now I have to come up with a good phonetic phrase for AI1V.  I had a really good phonetic phrase for WB2RYV - one that drove OOs right up the wall (but was perfectly legal).

You can mostly find me on the digital sub-bands. I still try CW every so often - just to remember what it's like to use a buggy whip, write in cuneiform on a clay tablet, light my house with whale oil lanterns, and hand crank my car.

My main rig is an FT-450.  I also have an FT-897 and a K2 (which I built).  I prefer the FT-450 for digital work.

I prefer eQSL. I also upload to LoTW (much as I don't like it) and I even post QSLs to QRZ.  I don't do paper QSLs.

I live with Tina, KB1UOB. She got her general ticket on 3/26/2011 and since then has been hogging the rig. I just barely beat her to DXCC.

And yes that's me, but no it is not my helmet and it's not my shack!!
