WC7WB NPOTA NS04, TR11 ACTIVITY

Bent's Old Fort National Historic Site and the Santa Fe Trail

Southeastern Colorado

It was a beautiful Fall day on the Santa Fe Trail route to Bent's Old Fort in Southeastern Colorado.

This fort was an intergral part of the history of America's expansion westward.

This was a true oasis along the Santa Fe Trail on the north side of the Arkansas River with Mexico, at that time, on the other side of the river.

The forts re-creation was built on the orginal site from drawings, written material as well as recovered archaeological evidence.

We made 73 QSO's and appreciate all those hams that struggled with our often weak signal to make a contact.

All QSO's have been uploaded to LoTW.

WC7WB NPOTA NS64  ACTIVITY

Sand Creek Massacre National Historic Site

Southeastern Colorado

A beautiful day on the eastern plains of Colorado at the Sand Creek Massacre National Historic Site yielded 184 QSO's.

Thanks to all those hams that pulled our weak signal out of the mud to make a contact.

The National Park Service personal were very accommodating and helpful in making this happen at this sensitive historic site.

What happened at this site in November of 1864 should give any person of character pause and a deep feeling of sadness for what took place.

A nation of character does, however, learn from it's mistakes...

All QSO's have been uploaded to LoTW

Here are a few pictures from the park. It was 50*F at 12,090 feet and a good 30 to 40 mph breeze on top of that. Thanks to W0EMS for the use of his vehicle and IC-7100 with the vertical that we actually had to guy because of the winds.

WC7WB WILL BE OPERATING FROM WYOMING

FIELD DAY 2015

WC7WB is back from Wyoming and the Field Day log has been uploaded to LotW. Despite pathetic band conditions a great time was had by all. W7SE, Walt, joined The Wild Bunch for this years event. Walt is a true Wyoming ham from Laramie. Walt lent his amazing CW expertise and racked up the majority of contacts for the club. The weather was outstanding without a drop of rain and no wind which is unheard of in Wyoming! Below are a few pictures from the event for your enjoyment.

THE STORY BEHIND THE WC7WB LOGO

In 2004 the Wyoming Colorado Amateur Radio Club had just received their new Vanity Call sign and were in Dayton to celebrate the official break out of the Wild Bunch. On a trip to the Air and Space Museum an idea was hatched for a club logo upon seeing the 88th Aero Squadron's Emblem used in WWI. The 88th Aero Squadron's history began in Colorado. After much work and several variations the final logo is as you see it today. It's an honor and tribute to those that went before and made the sacrifice allowing us the freedom to enjoy this great hobby of amateur radio today.

The 88th Aero Squadron was a Air Service, United States Army unit that fought on the Western Front during World War I. The 88th Aero Squadron history begins on 9 August 1917 at Fort Logan, Colorado when the men of both the 88th and 89th Aero Squadrons were inducted into the Army,

The squadron was assigned as a Corps Observation Squadron, performing short-range, tactical reconnaissance over the III Corps, United States First Army sector of the Western Front in France, providing battlefield intelligence. After the 1918 Armistice with Germany, the squadron was assigned to the United States Third Army as part of the Occupation of the Rhineland in Germany. It returned to the United States in June 1919 and became part of the permanent United States Army Air Service in 1921, being re-designated as the 88th Squadron.

The current United States Air Force unit which holds its lineage and history is the 436th Training Squadron, assigned to the 7th Operations Group, Dyess Air Force Base, Texas.

ARRL DX SSB CONTEST 2013 ALCOVA WYOMING

All logcontacts were submitted to LoTW March 5, 2013 from WC7WB's activity in the 2013 ARRL SSB DX Contestfrom Wyoming.

Everyone is back from Wyoming after another great ARRL DX SSB Contest this year. Our off center fed dipole for 40 and 80 worked well this year so we did a little better on those bands than ever before. It was a pleasure working the world once again from the great state of Wyoming.

More pictures to soon follow from this years contest....
