The Mesa Amateur Radio club was started to fill in the gaps where other clubs leave off. Most clubs gather to talk and discuss radio and ham radio topics. While there is nothing wrong with that, but there are other Hams out there that want to do more activities, events, and actually getting on the radio. So the club was created to not only give those who are finacially unable to own a radio, live in an HOA where antennas are prohibited, or simply want to explore the world of Ham Radio but for more experience hams an outlet to Elmer others.

We go camping 3 times a year with the intent of getting on the air and making as many contacts as possible, all the while providing an educational platform for all new and experienced hams. We also set aside 2 other times a year to visit either the Titan Missle Museum or the Arizona Science Center, or other locations that the club feels like visiting.  We love having visitors or others join in to come out and teach, or simply just get on the air with us and share our love of this hobby.

Camping and Radio 2015We also try to educate others. We feel that there is a serious lack of Elmers in todays society and that every Ham should take pride in helping other Hams or potential hams, so by providing a gathering place for Elmers to come together and share info, that new hams will show up to learn then turn around and become an Elmer. We also feel that we need more youth (anyone who feels young is young) in our hobby, but we realize that the statistics show that Ham Radio Operators are aging, so we need to try and bring the youth into the hobby. So by offering something other than lunch gatherings and meeting where we sit around and talk radio, lets actually do the exciting part and get on the radio.

Other topic's our club likes to present is the fact that it doesn't take a ton of money to get into the hobby. There are ways to cut the cost down. One way to do this is by making your own antennas and other equipment.

This also helps when you have HOA restrictions.

Another topic is the fact that there are many different ways to explore this hobby. Some like working Digital, some like Phone, some like contesting, some like working on electronics. Many Hams never explore the full spectrum of the hobby, so we try to dabble in the hobby and let Hams explore the hobby and make up their own mind as to what they like to do.

We want other potential or new hams to come to the hobby with an open mind and we want more Elmers to look at being an Elmer not as a job, but rather an opportunity to renew their own enthusiasm that started them in the hobby.

When we are on the air please drop by and say hi. If you are in our area, drop us an email and we will try and meetup or you can always drop by our meetings.
