Our club was founded on 27 October 2016 with the mission to promote STEM and emergency preparedness through amateur radio.  Our goal is for every Scout and Scouter to obtain his or her amateur radio license.  Our club is open to all registered Scouts and Scouters.  We provide amateur radio services at district and council camping events and participate in JOTA and SOTA.  We operate QRP on campouts and treks, using portable solar panels to recharge the battery pack.  We promote the Leave No Trace principles and batteries are the "no brainer" solution.  QRP has not significantly limited our operations...rather, we continue to be surprised at just how well QRP does work, even with subpar antenna setups and operating out of restrictive terrain.

We have recently started to use EchoLink and IRLP whenever possible for reachback to our troop and families when we are camping out of state, with a club operator hosting the local link for the families.  We hope to eventually establish a -L EchoLink repeater at our Troop Hut once we get internet service.

So far, 75% of our club members have earned the Radio Merit Badge.  We've built several antennas for HF, VHF, and UHF.  Our next project will be the construction of a 10 meter wire Yagi for use at campsites to attempt to catch some good DX.  We are going on a 7-day trek in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area in 2018 and look forward to taking our QRP radio set with us and making contacts from the great north woods of Minnesota.
