Our club was founded on 27 October 2016 with the mission to promote STEM and emergency preparedness through amateur radio.  Our goal is for every Scout and Scouter to obtain his or her amateur radio license.  Our club provides amateur radio services at district and council camping events and participates in JOTA and SOTA.  We primarily operate QRP in the field since we do not use generators and prefer primitive camping locations.

We have recently started to use EchoLink whenever possible for reachback to our troop and families when we are camping out of state, with a club operator hosting the local link for the families.  We hope to eventually establish a -L EchoLink repeater at our Troop Hut once we get internet service.

We are looking forward to learning to use PSK-31 in the coming months.  We are setting up to use PSK-31 through an iPad into our FT-817 during campouts and hope that this will open up some interesting DX opportunities.

So far, 75% of our club member Scouts have earned the Radio Merit Badge and we've built several basic dipole antennas for HF, VHF, and UHF.  Our next project will be the construction of a 2 meter Moxon for use at campsites to extend our range to our backpacking crews.  This will marry up a number of map reading skills, communications planning skills, and LOS assessment skills.  It should be a good challenge for our young Scouts!
