My name is Max Lyle. My call sign is WXØMWL. Many folks ask me about my unique call sign. I selected the WX prefix because it is sometimes used as an abbreviation for "Weather" which is something I have always been interested in. The suffix "MWL" is my initials.

Growing up in my Dad’s TV repair shop, I was always interested in radio and electronics, but never pursued the hobby of amateur radio until just recently. I was first licensed in March 2011 as KDØNXU with an Operator Class of Technician; this after attending Brian Short's program hamclass.org. Almost one year later, I upgraded to a General Class license. With good classroom training and the material still fresh in my mind, I set out to get my Extra Class license about 3 months later accomplishing this on the same day as my first Field Day experience in June 2012. I am a member of the Raytown Amateur Radio Club and enjoy the wealth of knowledge that these guys bring to the hobby. You will never meet a better group of guys.

My very first radio was a Kenwood TH-D72A HT. After saving up some more money, I put a Kenwood TM-D710A in my truck; and eventually another one in my car. For my base station, I have a Kenwood TS-2000 with a Comet GP-9 for 2m/440; and a Gap Titan DX antenna for HF work.   I stayed with the Kenwood brand only because it was my first radio; and I thought it might be easier to learn the complexities of just one manufacturer.

I enjoy the local 2m/ 440 repeater traffic, the nets, and am looking to get into APRS.  I have also dabbled with some HF although I am still learning. Below are photos of my antennas; the Comet for 2m/440 and the Gap for HF.  Hopefully I will have a 6 meter antenna and a 160 meter antenna soon.
