The NWS Wakefield SKYWARN Amateur Radio Support Team exists to provide amateur radio communications for the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Wakefield, Virginia. We maintain a pool of trained Net Control Stations who primarily operate 2-meter nets during severe weather conditions within the Wakefield, VA CWA.

You do not need to be a member of our team, nor do you need to be a trained SKYWARN Spotter to contribute to our nets. We encourage participation from everyone in the amateur community.

We also provide limited SKYWARN Spotter Training "Previews" for CERT groups and other organizations as requested by the National Weather Service, and we are strong believers in sharing of knowledge and service to the amateur community. Our web site, http://www.wx4akq.org/, has a wealth of SKYWARN-related information. We enjoy a great relationship with ARES/RACES, VDEM, and our neighbors at National Capital Area SKYWARN (WX4LWX).

Please stop by our web site, and if you hear us on the air, you are welcome to participate in our nets by reporting severe weather events.

You may also report severe weather by telephone by calling 1-800-737-8624.
