DL0BAC is a Club station of DARC OV Aachen DOK G01, located in the Vocational College for Technology and Design
(Berufskolleg für Technik und Gestaltung) at Neuköllner Str. 15 in Aachen. Station is QRV every Tuesday afternoon,
usually from about 1800 local time until 2030 local time when the building closes for the night. Station is not QRV
if schools in the state of North-Rhine Westphalia are closed on that day.
The club station resides in a room at the top of the Berufskolleg für Gestaltung und Technik (Vocational College for Design and Technology). When the school was built, this room was specifically designed to be there as a shack. This image shows the area where we work HF with various transceivers and gadgets (some property of the club, some brought in temporarily by OMs) in SSB, CW and digital modes. We have no regular Internet connection in the shack, but we don't need one - we have connection to HAMNET (the successor to Packet Radio that works using high-speed WLAN-like links) that lets us synchronize clocks for the JT modes or view the DX cluster.
This image shows our main antenna: a 3-element beam for 20/15/10 meter HF. We also have full-size dipoles for 80, 40 and 17 meter HF and a vertical for 2 m VHF. 6 m antenna is presently under construction.
The second main area of the shack is the electronics workshop and tinkering area where stuff can be built and repaired. We have OMs that are very strong in homebuilt stuff - a handful of parts goes onto a circuit board the size of a postage stamp, it is connected to one of our antennas and a CW key, the callsign DL0BAC is tapped out at about 1 W on 40 m - and voilà - it is spotted by a skimmer in England.
Station is usually QRV on Tuesdays between about 1800 (sometimes earlier) and 2030 local time, if the school is open on that Tuesday (it is closed during state school holidays and on general public holidays).
QSL NOTE: When QSOs are made under the DL0BAC callsign and during the QSO the op gives his/her personal callsign,
