A QS1R SDR receiver runs skimmer using my 2 element tri band (20/15/10) antenna at 10m agl when I am not using for other purposes. I live in a semi-rural area so the noise level is not too bad. This is usally beaming to the east where the take-off is particularly good.

I am on HF, mainly CW, home, portable or marine mobile (see picture above operating an FT817 5W CW as SV8/G4HSO/MM). /MM is always from a sailing boat, maximum length 14m. Sometimes I have to cut a QSO short without explanation to attend to the boat. Sorry if this happens.

In March - April 2017 I ran WSPR 500mW on 20m into a mobile 1m long whip while sailing in the Caribbean in a 13.7m sailing boat, Antigua to BVI, then across the Atlantic via the Azors to Plymouth in the UK. The transmitter wa a QRP labs unit with GPS.

I enjoy contests, usually with the Verulam Amateur Radio Club (VARC). I am also a member of the RSGB, CDXC, GQRP Clubs. I am a Committee member of VARC.

My main home equipment is an IC756ProII with occasional use of an Icom 7000 or FT817 for /m and /mm.

QSLing with G4HSO:
I am not keen at QSL carding. I have LOTW and eQSL accounts and may QSL that way though do have some cards.

The purpose of establishing the GCOA frequencies was to designate a place for passing emergency traffic on amateur frequencies. The following are the established GCOA frequencies: 21,360 KHz, 18,160 KHz, 14,300 KHz, 7,240 KHz, 7,060 KHz, 3,985 KHz and 3,750 KHz. Please respect these frequencies, even during contests.

I support the 'DX Code of Conduct' (see below).

= I will listen, and listen, and then listen again before calling.
= I will only call if I can copy the DX station properly.
= I will not trust the DX cluster and will be sure of the DX station's call sign before calling.
= I will not interfere with the DX station nor anyone calling and will never tune up on the DX frequency or in the QSX slot.I will wait for the DX station to end a contact before I call.
= I will always send my full call sign.
= I will call and then listen for a reasonable interval. I will not call continuously.
= I will not transmit when the DX operator calls another call sign, not mine.
= I will not transmit when the DX operator queries a call sign not like mine.
= I will not transmit when the DX station requests geographic areas other than mine.
= When the DX operator calls me, I will not repeat my call sign unless I think he has copied it incorrectly.
= I will be thankful if and when I do make a contact.
= I will respect my fellow hams and conduct myself so as to earn their respect.
