G3UOA & G8PGM

Formerly the "Rad Soc" of the University of Aston in Birmingham, the two club call-signs; G3UOA and G8PGM, have been inactive for some years now.

However, we reactivated G3UOA for a few days in March 2011, to give the splendid pair of masts a final airing before they were permanently removed from the Birmingham skyline.

For 50 glorious years they each stood 21M tall on two lift-motor rooms; 42M above ground level and 84M apart.

For that specific reactivation, we hung a full-span (80M) Carolina Windom 160 between them and worked a splendid selection of [142] stations using a Yaesu FT 2000 transceiver.

(Yet more about the ASTONishing masts is written here.) (If you're a former Aston Ham, please click:Alumni)
