Welcome to the Welland Valley Amateur Radio Clubs special event call sign page for

JUNE 2010/2011 and 2012

The special event call is in recognition of the Battle of Naseby, which took place on the 14th June c1645 and was the decisive battle in the English Civil War. The station was first set up in June 2010 and again in June 2011. It has been a very successful special event station and has generated a lot of interest when on air with many QSO’s. June 2012 will be its third year of operation with the main days of operation being the weekend of the 16th and 17th, there may also be some limited mid week operation if members get the time.

The Battle took place in the small village of Naseby just outside Market Harborough, where the club is based, and the special event station will be located on a high point that overlooks the battlefield. This is the same location that Prince Rupert chose as his base to direct the battle from as it gave him a clear view of the surrounding area. For us Radio Hams using his location means we get a good RF take off in all directions, just right for radio communications and catching the low angle radiation needed for good DX. If you check the satellite view on the details tab above you can even see the wooden picnic table we use to set the equipment up on!

The station is set up in the car park at Rupert’s Viewpoint near East Farndon which overlooks the Battlefield and is maintained by the Naseby Battlefield Project a charity registered in England No. 1119178

We operate on all bands from 3.5Mhz to 70cm and try to be on air for as long as the petrol in the generator lasts. QSL’s are 100% via eqsl and we will reply to any Cards sent direct via G4XEX or via the bureau. For direct please send IRC’s or 2 US$ and a sae. (UK SSAE).
