Try multi-band "phased long wires" with antenna tuners by JG1UNE.

I live in a complex housing on the 3rd floor and just don't have the space for full-size HF antennas.

Two vertical long wires, 7m long plus 2m linear loading, matched with SG-230s on 160m-10m bands.

This rotary switch TS-4 is manufactured by NKK.

Two elements with an appropriate phase line can create a so-called cardioid radiation pattern. It slightly changes shape depending on the band.

This excellent idea is originated by Mr. Makoto Takazawa JA1XS, appeared on page 220-225, CQ ham radio Nov. 1977.

Radiation direction can be changed at the flick of a switch. Less directive at lower than 7MHz because of only 3.3m intervals.

I have launched a fan club of MLA(Magnetic Loop Antennas) with my friends, JA1QOJ Mr. Murayoshi and JF1VNR Mr. Togoshi.
MLA48 Project
We investigate the magnum-force MLA in our limited space, even for the DX QSO on HF band.
This is one of test models, handicraft by JA1QOJ, 68cm dia. with motor driven adjustment. It focused on 50MHz, but is available for 18-28MHz with additional capacitor(s). Also, one meter dia. is now under manufacturing with an automatic adjustment circuit.

I have experienced a strange electric discharge it may be caused by the Japan Earthquake on 3.11 in 2011. I captured the video during the big earthquake at 15:20.

See it on You Tube.

I have heard some sounds of an electric discharge and finally I found out it came in between PC and 200W linear amp. After removing all AC lines, it was still generated.

I confirmed it is a repeatable nature. I think it was caused by the high voltage charging through the coaxial cable from long wire antennas at the veranda. It must be a nice sensor system for an earthquake which generates an enormous electric charge.
