The 2016 KSQP has come and gone....

The final tally :

  • 422 QSO's ( including the dupes for the Sunday Plaque * )
  • All 50 States worked
  • 6 Canadian Provinces
  • 2 DX

      * See the Official Rules at www.ksqsoparty.org

The band conditions were certainly not the best, but with that much participation from outside Kansas, it was an amazing experience.  Thanks for the Q's, and I hope we all can do it again next year!

KØL will be active from Wyandotte County (WYA) again !

Thanks for checking in for the 2016 Kansas QSO Party! Once again, we are celebrating with 1x1 callsign fun. Besides 23 plaques, fifteen or more mobiles, and all 105 counties active both CW and SSB, we have 45 1x1 calls spelling KANSAS, SUNFLOWER (the state flower) and QSOPARTY using the last letter of the call. Once again we also offer the Sunday Sunflower plaque for the highest Sunday score by an out-of-state operator who hasn't already won a plaque.  You can operate both days or just Sunday and still have a chance to win a plaque!

This year you can earn a certificate which displays all nine of our antique radio stamps. If you already have the certificate from last year, you can still choose one stamp for each word spelled up to three.  Our new stamp for 2016 is the 1973 Progress in Electronics DeForest Audion stamp. We also have a drawing for the chance to win our solid maple laser-engraved made-in-Kansas plaque, the same one category winners take home. To enter the drawing, just turn in a log. The more 1x1 calls you work, the more chances you have to win. Working BONUS station KS0KS counts as a wild card in the spelling challenge. Here's the direct link to the 1x1 Checklist. Hope you can join the fun!

More information is available at the KSQP web site including pictures of the certificates and stamps.

*********     LUNAR ECLIPSE    *********

The fourth lunar eclipse is over.  If you worked us on 25, 26, 27, or 28 September 2015 and you want a QSL card with a picture of the moon during the eclipse, please send us your card.  We have responded to all QSL card requests and uploaded the logs for all four of the past lunar eclipse events to LOTW.   The operators for this, the last of the four total lunar eclipses in a row, were  KD0OIX, W0NXS, KD0WUF, KD0RII, and KD0YUA

This was the last of the four K0L special event stations to be hosted for the lunar eclipses.  Thank you to all the people who stopped by during the last two years.  We certainly appreciated the fun of talking to so many people and to short ragchews about this and other celestial events.  Over the two years, the operators for the lunar eclipse special events were KE0CJU, K0EMP, W0FRU, W0NXS, KD0OIX, KD0QOQ, KD0RII, KD0VFJ, KD0WUF, KD0YUA.

If you would like a QSL card for the fourth lunar eclipse, please send a self-addressed envelope by 1 November 2015 (if you buy the stamp to send your card to us, we will buy the stamp to send a card to you, this includes DX stations as well) to:

Dwight Moore
Campus Box 4050
1 Kellog Circle
Emporia, KS 66801

The Emporia State University Amateur Radio Club and the Emporia Amateur Radio Society  were hosting this special event station to call attention to the lunar eclipse that was seen from all of North America during the evening of 27 September 2015 local time.  To find out more about eclipses visit the NASA  web site.
