I am a HAM, as of March 2006. Upgraded to a General class about a year later. You might know me better as Kay-six-jonny-walker-black.
My background is in the Datacom industry and I do alot of Phone Systems, networking and othe low-voltage specialty projects. I've been self employed since 1999 and since I put hundreds of miles a week on my trucks, I decided to utilize my gift-o-gab and my free time by investing in a ham radio license and my equipment.
Currently I use the following in the shack for HF:
Kenwood TS-590, an Yaesu ft450AT, an FT101E (for AM modes) and a Yaesu 757GX2. The AMPS are an AL80B and ALS-500m, both by Ameritron.Antennas are the AS3 Beam + 40m add-on, G5RV, 6 meter 1/4 vertical, Diamond Tri-bander for VHF-UHF, and Maco M104C 10/12m 4 element beam.
In the mobiles:
In truck #1 I use an Icom IC706mk2g and a 400 watt HF amp.
I have a Diamond Tribanders (vhf/uhf), and Screwdriver antennas made by www.alpineantennas.com.
I monitor 20meters, usually from 14.272 thru 14.313, 40m from 7.175 thru 7.300, 75 m 3.825 thru 3.870, 10 meters 28.385+, and chasing DX on 12m,15,m, & 17m.
I'm also on some of the local Southern California repeaters. I enjoy the Sixshooter group and am also a member, you can find me on the N6LXX repeater network on Wednesday and Friday nights and on the Frido Corchip net on 28.435 USB every Thursday night around 7:25pm.
Of course when conditions are good, I monitor ALL the HF frequencies.
I am a member of San Diego SixShooters, & ECRA, and AMI (all can be Googled).
