You can find me in the March issue of QST! CW Rookie Roundup page 94.

July 2016 update: I recently bought some used equipment and yesterday 7/16/16 it got set up! I felt like a kid at Christmas! I have my own rig now a IC-718 and a AT-180 Tuner. A G5RV-jr was hoisted in the sky! Once again, thanks to the best Elmer's a YL could have, K1TA, WB2JVB and W1FSM.

Being a YL, I'm always asked how I got into ham radio. So here is my adventure. In the spring of 2015, the CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) group I belong to had a Technician class. When we are deployed we can be spread out and communication is hard without radios with all the hills, valleys and trees in CT. I took the class and got my Tech ticket May 28, 2015. My call was KC1DZZ. We took a "field trip" to the Greater Norwalk Amateur Radio Club and I was hooked. Watching CW being sent at an extremely high rate of speed (K1TA) was magical! (I'm still working on CW) I started studying for my General and passed April 2016. My elmers put up a 40m dipole in my yard and the club let me borrow an ICOM 718. I was on the air! As soon as I got home from getting my General, I started studying for my Extra and passed May 1, 2016.  My OM is not a ham, I'm asked that too. I want to thank my Elmers, WB2JVB, who started me on this adventure and K1TA. Without  their continued encouragement and support I would never have gotten past my Tech. It so magical, with a wire strung between two trees, you can talk to anyone in the world!  Never lose sight of the magic! - 73, Lisa
