Hello all.... This is a photo of me standing in the radio room on the USS Missouri in Oahu, Hawaii. My wife and I were taking a tour at the very end of the day. So there were not many people left on the ship. The communications room was not part of the tour. It was locked up tothe general public.

Explaining to the guide that I was a Amateur Radio Operator and wanted take a look in radio room if possible, he let us in only for a short while.

As you can see there was a Kenwood station set-up with a wire antenna strung from the front of the ship to thecenter tower. This was a very "long wire". The Battleship Missouri Amateur Radio Club operates from here.

Allied sailors and officers watched General of the Army Douglas MacArthur sign documents during the surrender ceremony aboard Missouri on 2 September 1945 in Tokyo Bay. The unconditional surrender of the Japanese to the Allies officially ended the Second World War.
