One person that everyone would like to talk to is Joe Voelkelt, who lives in Fairbanks Alaska. Joe is someone who has talked to over 80,000+ people in his long ham career. His first license was granted in 1976 as WB0RYI. In 1979 became N7CBE as a Technician license in Alaska and in early 1980 received his present call, KL7LF and has held this call for over 30 years. In 1986 he operated from the Johnston islands as KL7LF/KH3. He was an Advanced for 20 years until the 2003 field day where he and family-like friend Sharol went to the Pueblo Ham Club where he tested for an Extra, and Sharol went for her General of which both passed with flying colors. About Joe’s education; in 1976 he graduated from USC in Pueblo CO. (now CSU Pueblo) he then became an electronic technician for RCA/OMS working in Alaska on the AC&W Air-Force radar sites maintaining central office telephone switching equipment. Then, in 1986 he got the position doing the same things on Johnston Island. At the end of his electronic career he was an electronic Technician; now he is a mailman (calls himself “The !!Decrepit Old Mailman!!” HI) and now i am retired(retired decrepit old mailman). Every Memorial Day weekend he flies down to Colorado to enjoy the mountain climate with W0ENA a club station and with his friends Royce (AA0JD) , Bob (WA0MEX, now sk), Gary (WB0FFI), Dave (N0KM), Sean (KC0PPG), Sharol (KA0WFL), and Keith (KC0PPH). on the picture from left to right are: royce AA0JD, gary WB0FFI, keith(me)KC0PPH, joe KL7LF, dave N0KM, sean KC0PPG.
