I retired from the airline industry in 2003 and when the code requirement was eliminated in 2007 I immediately  took the exam for Technician  followed shortly thereafter by the General.  It wasn't until 2014 that I took the Amateur Extra Class  exam.  I wish I had done it years earlier! On Aug 2nd, 2014 I exchanged my old call (KC9ORD) for my current call.

I've been chasing paper for several years splitting my efforts between Digital and Phone.  My current station consists of:

  • Flex Radio 6500 into an SPE 2K-FA amp
  • Elecraft K2 feeding a Heathkit HL-2200 for 80M
  • Tasjian LM470 70' tower topped with a SteppIR DB18-E beam and a 80M inverted V
  • A Shared Apex (Sal-20) receive antenna that I use mainily on the lower bands

I QSL via LoTW, Direct.

I am the QSL manager for WS7DX, the Southern Arizona DX Association (www.sadxa.org)
