I was first licensed in Kansas City, in late 1954, as WN0YFT, upgrading to General in April 1955.  After 8 years in the USAF (1958-1966) I moved to North Carolina and was licensed as W4NQA from 1966-1968;  In 1967 while passing thru Washington D.C I took and passed the EXTRA exam;  I was known as W1ETU from 1968-1970 in Connecticut while working at ARRL Hq.   After moving to Richmond, VA in mid-1970 I was able to regain the call W4NQA;  In January 1973 I made my final permanent move, to Asheville, in the mountains of Western North Carolina.  I was fortunate to be assigned N4AA in December 1976, in the first round of "N" prefix callsigns.

2017 marks my 63rd year licensed.

In the early 1990's I was able to "restart" Chapter 145 of the Quarter Century Wireless Association (QCWA) for the singular purpose of establishing the SOUTHERN APPALACHIAN RADIO MUSEUM.  Now known as THE ASHEVILLE RADIO MUSEUM, it has been in place for over 20 years located on the campus of the Asheville-Buncombe Community College.  I invite you to visit the web site for more details at:  https://www.avlradiomuseum.org/

I am the trustee of a club call - KB4C.  This was the callsign of my late wife Miriam, who passed away in 1995.

My first/only DXpedition was to the Bahamas as  C 6 A A A  April 17-23, 2009, with great assistance from Joe, W8GEX;  Joe, AA4NN and their wives who did the cooking.

Primary interests: Contesting and DXing, mostly on CW, but I do operate SSB and the Digital modes as well.

DXCC # 1 - Top of the Honor Roll at 361 all time confirmed;  5B-DXCC; 5B-WAS; Challenge Award and many contest awards over the past 60 plus years.

I am honored to have been inducted into the CQ Magazine DX Hall of Fame in 2012.

I have been the QSL Manager for Satish, 9N1AA for many years.

I was also a QSL Manager for the 1995 operation from Libya (5A1A) by a group from the Ukraine.
