My primary operating interests are DXing and occasional contesting, and after 40 years of ham radio using only dipoles and verticals I finally was able to install a decent tower and pair of yagis in the spring of 2008. The picture above shows an OptiBeam OB2-40 at 25m and an OptiBeam OB16-3 at 22m rotated by a Prosistel PST-61D, all mounted on an AN Wireless HD-70 heavy duty freestanding tower. My QTH is on a steep eastward-facing slope at the southern end of the Huachuca Mountains near the border between Arizona and Mexico. It gives me excellent takeoff angles toward Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, but the high ridgeline to the west does a pretty good job of blocking much of my signal to the Pacific.
