Welcome to Wyoming, where we have more pronghorn antelope than we do people!  I go by "Mike", not "Michael" (on my license).  I've been a Civil Engineer & land surveyor for the past 23-plus years.  Before that I was a broadcaster  (or as we called it way back when, "broadchaser")!

From 1969 to 1986 I worked on various radio and television stations including:

KWOR, Worland, Wyoming (my high school part-time job);

KOJO and K102-FM, Laramie, Wyoming (my college job);

KPSA (Que Pasa) radio, Alamogordo, New Mexico - Operations Director, morning show; very close to White Sands, NM - neat place.

KFRB, Fairbanks, Alaska; we loved Alaska (except the state bird - the mosquito)!

KCBF radio and KTVF channel 11 television, Fairbanks, Alaska;

KAYY-101 FM, Fairbanks, Alaska;

and Northern Television Production, where one of my last "on air" jobs was to narrate the 1986 Yukon Quest Sled Dog Race from Fairbanks, AK to Whitehorse, Yukon Canada.

My Broadcasting degree is from the University of Wyoming, 1977.  In 1986 I finished my other degree in Civil Engineering at the University of Alaska - Fairbanks (9-time national rifle champions!) and I've been here in Worland, Wyoming where I'm the 3rd generation Donnell to run Donnell & Allred, Inc., a Civil Engineering & Land Surveying Firm.

I'm relatively new to amateur radio, but I sure love it - especially when we actually get a SUNSPOT so we can communicate over a BAND THAT WORKS!!  I can't wait for Cycle 24 to get going!  My other hobby is shooting - I shoot NRA & CMP Highpower matches - usually in Service Rifle category; also action pistol matches, IPSC and IDPA-type matches...even some Cowboy Action matches...all good stuff!

Met my wife of nearly 30 years, Mary, at KOJO in Laramie back in 1975; we also worked together at KPSA in Alamogordo, NM.  We have 2 sons, Cody and Nick, 1 daughter, Lori and son-in-law, Branden, all within a 180-mile radius.  I've had 3 back surgeries, with very little success, between 1992 and 1997 so I had a spinal chord stimulator installed a couple years back.  It helps, but it's still a struggle every day - too much sitting at work!

If you would like to arrange a QSO or need Washakie County or Wyoming for awards, please send me an email and we'll arrange a time to meet.

Thanks to my mentor, Skip - W7PN, and thanks for reading this - I hope to catch you on the bands!
