I started in Amateur Radio in 1982, in Houston, TX. My interest in radio was in part due to my dabbling in CB (Yea, I did that!), and my military job (MOS 31M Radio relay and repair).I was first licensed in 1982 as a novice call(KA5JHJ), and then upgraded to Tech Plus in 1983 (N5FKF). It was then a long, dry spell before finally upgrading to General (KD5GIF)in 1999 and finally EXTRA (AF5K)in late 2000 and yes I am a 5 wpm extra. I mostly do phone operation but I am working to become involved in SSTV and some of the digital modes, Look for me just about anywhere on the band. My equipment is: ICOM IC-746pro, AMP AM-811H , antenna is ladder line fed Multiband loop at 50 feet a  tennadyne Log-Periodic Dipole Array  and a 80/160 trap dipole  . I also do some HF Army MARS work. I retired from the US Army after serving 20+ years for Uncle Sam. I started as a radio relay operator, and retired as a Guidance Counselor (79D). I was drafted in 1966 and retired at the rank of MSG E8 in Oct 1995. My tours have been to Bad Kreaznach GE, Stuttgart GE, Chi Lai Vietnam,Korea, Ft Polk LA, Ft Gordon GA, Ft Hood TX, Ft Rucker AL, Ft Devens MA, Ft Missoula MT, Vicksburg MS and Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center CO. I currently reside in Fairfield Twp OH (just a short 45 min drive to Hara Arena. I am currently retired and spend most of my time on the radio or traveling in the RV.
