Chris Pelton, AF6JI,  is an active member of the San Mateo Sheriff's Office communications team which provides emergency & special support for rescues, searches & other events throughout the County. This is a well trained group of licensed amateurs headed by Ross Peterson, WB6ZBU, from the Office of Emergency Services, San Mateo County, State of California. Chris is also a member of SCARES (South County Amateur Radio Emergency Services) (www.k6mpn.org) who provide a similar service within the larger communities, Police Departments & for other special events in San Mateo County.

Chris is also a certificated volunteer examiner (VE) with both the Sunnyvale VEC (www.amateur-radio.org) and the W5YI Group VEC (www.baears.com). Her initial call sign was KI6HKB before she up-graded her license status by studying the exam materials and applying all the knowledge that she could learn and remember for the FCC exams.

 Ron,(NC6U) was responsible for gifting the hf rig, power supply and microphone to Chris. The hf station had belonged to Ken Beck, WB6UYV, (SK) of Lancaster, CA. Ken passed away in the spring of 2009 and his family asked Ron (NC6U) to find a new home for his radio station. Chris was quoted  "I'm honored and privileged for this wonderful gift."

Chris currently operates a Yaesu FT-1802 (2 meters) and a Yaesu 920 hf rig in  her home and uses a Yaesu FT-60 as a handheld. She has access to complete HF stations at the Redwood City Police Department ham station. Chris is a member of the ARRL and PAARA, the Palo Alto Amateur Radio Association. (www.paara.org).  She has participated in Field Day for several years at the huge, active PAARA site in Menlo Park. She has also participated as a communicator with the Menlo Park based Blackberry REACT group on long bicycle events requiring radio assistance.

Chris, AF6JI,is a State licensed Bail Bonds Agent and Bail Recovery Agent with Madonna's Bail Bonds in Redwood City,she holds a commission as a Notary Public. She is currently studying for the GROL (First Class radiotelephone operators license) from the FCC. Chris is highly trained as a certified Medic First AID and CPR,she has completed all of the FEMA  courses which are a requirement for Emergency First Responders in the Sheriff's Office.
