SWL REPORTS WELCOME

Grid EM95le. Gaston County, North Carolina, USA

30mdg #1857, EPC #8317

AS YOU CAN SEE, I'M ACTUALLY IN A "SHACK", THE "MANSHACK" AS MY WIFE CALLS IT.

(THE DOGHOUSE IS ALSO MINE WHEN SHE GETS MAD)

I upload almost nightly to LOTW and QRZ.comeQSL.cc (AG) and HRDLOG.net. You can also QSL to my address. No SASE necessary (but always appreciated)- I will reciprocate in kind. Bureau will work, too. Be warned- I'm very slow in returning paper qsl's. Feel free to e-mail me if i'm taking too long or you think I've missed you.

Ham since 2008! I'm running a Icom IC-746 (Thanks, Gerald, AG0R!) to one of two antennas: a "Lazy H" colinear array (NRY) @ 70 ft. up, or a G5RV dipole @ 40 ft. up (one is oriented north/south and one is oriented east/west). I also have an inverted "L" up at about 60 ft. for 160m. In addition,  I have 10m and 6m dipoles up as well (both in the same tree).  Occasionally, I work my son's FT-450 to a 3-band fan dipole. I am getting some great DX and distant US contacts even though I'm working barefoot (100w). Moreover, I'm learning CW, so if you hear me messing up, feel free to e-mail me and straighten me out. I'm very active in the digital modes: PSK31, OLIVIA, RTTY, FELDHELL and whatever else DM780 supports (Thank you, Simon Brown, HB9DRV). I use JT-65 and now am beginning to use JT-9 as of 2014 (THANK YOU Joe Taylor, K1JT). Also, I am active on the Winlink Global Radio Email System.

My other operating activities include: ECHOLINK. I very much enjoy FreeDV on 20m HF from Bruce Perens, K6BP (thank you!). You may also find me doing D-STAR with my DVDongle, or my ARES-issued ID-5100A, good fun! Further, I have a healthy VHF/UHF FM station, a Yaesu FT-7800 (mobile), and the ID-5100A (fixed) with an Elk 2m/70cm log periodic on a rotator as well, with which I do some simplex calling, but mostly local repeater work/nets. 2016 finds me working DMR stations with my TYT MD-390 HT.

As of 2015, I am formally in NC ARES, and I am FEMA certified for deployment to statewide emergencies. Also, I have become a VE certified with ARRL VEC and WCARS VEC.  Finally, I enjoy contesting from time to time (just for the fun and the DX contacts). As of June, 2016, I am now the Gaston County, NC ARES Emergency Coordinator (EC).

2016 is a blessing inasmuch as my 12 year-old son, NG2M (ex-KK4ZJF), now holds an Extra Class license, and even more wonderful is that my wife has her Extra Class license now (???wow!), KM4LWL. My 7 year old daughter is studying for her Technician license- hope she gets it soon.
