Elecraft KPA500 500 watt amp

Elecraft KAT500 antenna tuner

This setup allows for automatic band and frequency changes following the radio, and automatic atenna tuning/transmatching when the SWR rises above a preset value.


Full wave horizontal loop cut for 80m (~275 ft) with a 4:1 balun at feedpoint to LMR-400 coax.  35 - 40 ft. in the air.

Information on this antenna can be found in various places on the internet as well as an article by Dave Fischer in the November 1985 edition of QST.



Yaesu FT-817nd (5 watts QRP)

Tokyo Hy-Power HL-45B 45 watt amplifier (when needed).

Behringer Ultravoice XM8500 dynamic microphone.  About $20 (USD) and uses XLR connections.

Audio Processing:

I use the TS-590s' internal equalizer, and internal DSP, for transmit audio processing.

TS-590s Audio Settings:

Processor In = 60

Processor Out = 33

SSB High Cut = 3,000  (menu item: 26)

SSB Low Cut = 100 - 400 depending on atmospheric and pile-up conditions  (menu item: 27)


TX Equalizer User Defined Settings (created using Kenwood's ARCP-590 radio control program):
