Amateur (Ham) Radio Commomorative Special Event Station has been putup at Bangalore, INDIA on occation of the Fifth Asian Congress of Esperanto from 11th to 15th February 2008. This conference is organised at NIMHANS Convention Centre, Bangalore with over 200 delegates from Japan, Korea, Britain,Australia, Nepal and host country India.

Esperanto is a vibrant living language with a rich vocabulary. It has a history of over 100 years. Esperanto was created by a Polish Eye Doctor in 1887. Esperanto enjoys consultative status with UNESCO of United Nation Organisation.

The inaugural ceremony on 12th Feb morning will be attended by Prof. Prabol Das Gupta, an Indian linguist of repute who has been elected as the President of World Esperanto Organisation UEA (Universal Esperanto Association), Prof. K.E. Radhakrishna of Bangalore, President of Asian Esperanto Federation, Hori Yasuo, President of Indian Esperanto Federation Dr. Abdul Salam.

An eshibition depicting the origin and development of esperanto is being oranised at the venue and it is open to the General Public.

On the occation of the 5th Asian Esperanto Congres the Indian Postal Department is releasing a Special Postal Cover with Special Postal Cancellation at the Bangalore General Post Office - GPO on 12th February 2008.

The delegates at the congress will delibrate on the ways to popularise esperanto in Muntilingual Asian Continent.

A group of 12 Hams have been granted permission from Government of India, Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, New Delhi vide L 14011/640/2006-AMT Dated 11th Feb 2008 with Special Callsign AT8ESP.

Thanks to all the dedicated ham operators especially VU2UR, VU2QNY, VU2LX,VU2GOP, VU2GUR and VU2GZ plus all others so that we are not only on all bands but all modes including digital that is echolink thanks to special thanks to VU2ZUB and VU3KCA for linking it to VHF Repeaters of South India and 40m HF bands also.

With blessing from International League of Esperantist Radio Amateurs - ILERA http://www.esperanto.org/internacia/ILERA/ we go ahead spreading the Friendship amongst Amateur (Ham) Radio and Esperantist.
