Formerly from Cape Town, South Africa, I have been living in Oporto, Portugal since 1993.

In South Africa, I was trained in Electronic Warfare, and did National Military Service in the South African Signals Corps (SACS) from 1985 untill 1987 (Heidelberg Signals School and 5 Signals Regiment). After completing military service, I wrote the Radio Amateur Examination in 1989. My first callsign was ZR1ACB, and then later, after passing the morse code test became ZS1AGJ. I have also been a keen Shortwave Listener since 1980, and was also a keen member of the South African DX Club (SADXC). During that time I took part in some SWL DXpeditions, and was also editor of "MW Logbook" for the SADXC magazine, "The South African Shortwave Listener".

Here my running conditions are:a Yaesu FT-2000 (for HF),a Yaesu VHF/UHF mobile,a Yaesu VR-5000 scanner and an FL-2100z linear amplifier. Antennas are: a Tribander (Hygain Explorer 14) at 18m height,a dipole for 40/80m,a VHF/UHF dualbander vertical, a 5 element Yagi for 50MHz at 20m height, and a discone antenna for scanner.

I also enjoy working mobile, and for this I use a Yaesu FT-857d with matching AT-120 mobile antenna.

Workwise, I was involved in Footwear Sales and ran a Footwear Retail Megastore in the Oporto area from 1994 until 2012. I have since sold my business and am planning to have more time to enjoy my Amateur Radio hobby amongst other things.I am married to Linda and have two daughters (18 and 12 years old). I am, fluent in English, Portuguese and Afrikaans. I enjoy Ragchewing, DXing, Scanners, and SWLing. Please look out for me also on Echolink and Hamsphere.
