This is DK1AQ from Varel Germany.

Varel is situated on the southern part of the bay “Jadebusen” which is a part of the North Sea. We have a dockport and a seabath “Dangst”. Bigger cities are in the north Wilhelmshaven and in the south Oldenburg. Bremen is 60km southeast. Population about 25.000 inhabitants. I live in the suburb “Obenstrohe”.

Station :TS570D + PA, transverter for 2m, 70cm, 23cm and 13cm

Milestones by DK1AQ:

1948 - Born in Barth (Baltic Sea)

1959 - Reading books about radios, seen movies about radioamateurs helping to bring a serum to a fishingship, fascinating for me.

1960 - Moved from Erfurt (East Germany) via Berlin, black border, to Bavaria (West Germany) only with handbaggage.

1962 - Went to Bielefeld /Westfalia.

1964 - Building tubeamplifiers and radio receiving gear.

1965 - My friends father red in the newspaper, learn morscode free by the local radioclub. He brought us first by car to the “Jugendheim Niedermühlenkamp” in Bielefeld. The next tours we had to do by bike, 45minutes each way. I did the SWL examination and got the callsign DE15520. It was changed 1981 into DE1AQA.

1966 - June 16th, I got the license DK1AQ. My friend got DL2TL earlier, because you had to be 18 years old at that time to get a license.

1966 - Learning a job as “Elektromechaniker”.

1967 - Visiting G3LAZ, Roy, in Thornton Heath (Croydon/London). Active on 80m and 2m with the hostcall G5AIE.

1970 - Surrounding UK by car using G5AIE/m, GM5 and GW5 active on 2m-band. Had a stay at G3TDG London later Biggin Hill.

1970 - Studying “Electronic/Information Message” at Fachhochschule Bielefeld.

1970 - Visiting 4U1ITU in Geneva and active with this callsign.

1971 - DK1AQ/LA and also with DK4QT active in Morokulien LG5LG/SK9WL.

1971 - Working G3LQR via transponder ARTOB, balloon started near Hannover Germany.

1972 - 12th Word Wide RTTY Maple Leaf Sweepstakes, top Germany.

1973 - VHF-RTTY-Contest, British Amateur Radio Teleprinter Group, first place Europe.

Foundationmember of GARTG German Amateur Radio Teletype Group.

1974 - Joined AGAF Arbeitsgemeinschaft Amateur Fernsehen (Television) M015.

1976 - Friedrichshafen, Bodenseetreffen hostcallsign OE1XFB.

1977 - Worked W3BWU and W9SE via OSCAR 7.

1980 - WAEDC 3rd place Europe.

1980 - Moved to Jade (Jaderaussendeich), 1985 to Varel.

1982 - Built 3D equipment with two tv-cameras, red and green picture, to see stereo pictures with a pair of
(red/green) spectacles.

Worked VE7 on 10m with homebuild tranceiver only 0.3 W output, got 58 report.

1992 - Worked I4GBZ via Aurora on 2m.

2008 - Retired, often in the morning with the G-Group in the dx-window on 80m.

2008 - Activated lighthouse Arngast/Jadebusen by my tiny ship “Nemo” as DK1AQ/m.

2009 - Worked KH6YY on 80m, KH7XS on 40m, great for me.

2011 - Activated DLFF-010 Nationalpark and Nature Reverse-Biosphaere Lower Saxony Wadden Sea.

2013 - Joined CQ WW RTTY contest from Madeira "CR3L" with German operators. QRV as CT9/DK1AQ on 80m,40m and 17m.

2014 - Got "WAS-PHONE 80m" in Feb. 2014, milestone for me.
