Licenced in 1964. Held many calls including ZC4FC/5B4FC whilst with the RAF at Nicosia, Cyprus. I was very active back in the UK in the 60s & 70s especially as Britain's most northerly ham located on the island of Unst in the Shetland Islands as GM3SVK and worked over 200 countries for the DXCC in 2 years. I have many awards for winning various phone and CW contests and hold over 50 awards for IOTA, DXCC, WAZ, WAE, WAS, WDR, WAB, OHA etc etc.
I am a keen CW operator and was a service engineer for a radio telephone company before joining British Gas as their Essex Communications Officer. I retired in 1993 and currently run my own TV and Video production company filming weddings, parties and corporate promotions for which I have several awards. I am currently heard on CQ100 and I have recently purchased a Yaesu FT857 which just gives a maximum power of 100 watts to 20M, 40M, 30M and 17M dipoles. Although I mainly use CW, I have been known to venture up to the SSB end. So I look forward to a QSO with you sometime. I can often be heard pounding the brass using our club's callsign of GX4HRC/A (see below).
I am currently married (XYL Diane) with a 18 year old daughter, Georgina who has had a few behavioural problems. I also have a son and daughter from a previous relationship. My daughter, Debbie, lived, until recently, with her husband in EA8 (Lanzarote) whilst my son, Christopher, is currently settled with his Swedish girlfriend in Sweden and have a baby daughter and plan to marry in July 2012. If anyone ever remembers me, I'd be delighted to hear from them. I like to play on my MZ2000 keyboard. I am self taught so don't expect great things. You can watch some of my videos on YouTube under www.youtube.co.uk/cosmicfredvideosome ham radio videos of our local club as well as me playing the keyboard. feel free to leave a comment!
