QSL image for G3WZD

I was first licensed in 1967 as G8BDU (shortly after my 15th birthday) and then, having managed to pass the morse test, as G3WZD in November 1967. I recently had G8BDU re-issued to me - just for fun...

Having spent 23 years in Asia (licensed as 9V1UG), I returned to the UK in 2002 and have reactivated my rigs in 2008, having been QRT for several years. I am active on SSB on most HF bands, plus multi-mode on 2m and 70cms. I run a Yaesu FTdx3000 / Yaesu Quadra but also still have an elderly ICOM IC-751 / IC-2KL / IC-AT500 plus a TS480/811H on HF, all feeding a G2DYM trap dipole for 80m to 10m plus 40M, 30M and 20M resonant quarter wave verticals. I fitted the G2DYM dipole with an extra pair of elements, resonant on 60M, which is proving to be a spectactular band for intra-G working pretty much year round. I enjoy 6m and use a 5 ele InnovAntenna LFA yagi. 2m & 70cms FM are served by an FT8900 feeding a 3-band colinear at 14 metres. 2m and 70cm SSB operation is pretty much all /P as the home QTH is pretty poor for V/UHF. I have recently pressed my venerable 34 year old FT-101ZD back into service after several years of it being packed away. It is still getting excellent reports just running barefoot into the multiband dipole.

I operate /P during the summer and am occasionally active during the 2M SSB activity contests as a member of Trowbridge and District Amateur Radio Club.

Current projects include PSK31 and RTTY using a West Mountain Radio RigBlaster Advantage with Logger32 software, plus trying to persuade my XYL of the merits of larger antennas (almost certainly a lost cause!) and, last but not least, working hard on getting my CW back up to scratch...

The pic below is my QSL card, taken near my home in December 2010.

Aside from radio, I coach junior rugby (union) for Bath Youth (we won the Somerset County Championship as U14 in the 2010/11 season) and previously for Bradford on Avon RFC in Wiltshire; I am also an RFU qualified referee - rugby keeps me fit and completed the 2012/13 season with a full calendar of youth tournaments, including The Avon RFC U16 Sevens, The Landrover Cup, The Mendip Rhino Sevens and Bradford on Avon Mini's Festival tournaments!

I enjoy sailing (I operated as G3WZD/MM Region 3 for many years) and scuba diving, but only in tropical waters, HI HI. I also enjoy riding my 2012 Harley Davidson Fatboy, but must confess to being a fair weather rider...

Professionally, I have been involved in RF communications and IT for nearly 40 years. I currently manage the European, African & Middle East operations for a Santa Clara-headquartered developer of enterprise grade network security analystics solutions.

I am a member of the RSGB, G-QRP Club, Trowbridge& District Amateur Radio Club, RAOTA (number 2451) FISTS and SKCC.

Please call if you hear me on the bands and thanks for looking me up on QRZ.com.

73 and good DX,

Duncan

PS: WAB Square is ST74

If you hear me out and about /M or /P, you can see my location on the map below...
