I was licenced in March 1968 at the age of 18 and lived at that time in Sidcup, Kent. I am a keen builder of simple home brewed transceivers and test equipment. I can operate on the following bands (all with home made equipment): 136 kHz, 472 kHz, 160m , 80m, 40m, 30m, 20m and 10m mainly on CW but have recently taken an interest in digital modes especially WSPR and Opera. My aerial is a 43m end fed inverted 'L' at a height of 10m. I use this for all bands except 10m, for which I have a dipole. I have regular skeds on 160m AM (1985 kHz) on Monday evenings: 19.15 local time and on 474 kHz CW on Sundays: 09.15 local time. I am available for LF (136 kHz) QSO's using CW or QRSS and MF (472 kHz) QSO's using CW - E-mail to arrange for a sked. At present I am experimenting with a simple home brewed QRP DSB / WSPR transmitter on various bands. It runs about 0.5 watts pep i.e. 0.25 watts WSPR. All spots / reports are most welcome.
I have worked in engineering since leaving school until the present time. I completed a 4-year indentured apprenticeship at EQD (Electrical Quality Assurance Directorate) Bromley, Kent from 1967-1971 I have worked in several establishments including the Metropolitan Police Radio Department, Queen Mary's Hospital Sidcup, ITT Semiconductors, Marconi Saunders, Bestobel Meterflow, Cincinatti Milacron - all as a permanent employee and several more establishments as a sub-contractor. At present I am with Astrium, Stevenage, previously Matra Marconi Space, formerly British Aerospace Space Systems. I have been with the same establishment for 32 years and am based in the Structural Test Department as Principal Engineer. I worked on several occasions in French Guiana as senior instrumentation engineer on the Ariane 4 rocket release system. 73 Chris G3XIZ
