During my time as a SWL I developed an interest in low bands, this interest continued to grow after gaining my license in 1971.
My low band interests became exclusively 80m DXing with simple homebuilt gear and antennas. Over time I started to experiment with verticals, progressing to a pair of phased verticals. Ten years ago I built my current 4 square using full size elements with 120 radials on each element. There are also 80half wave long radials from the centre of the array. I am constantly trying to improve the array each year by experimenting with different phasing networks and phaseangles.
My son, Henry and I are at present working together developing a company (www.antennaengineering.co.uk) producing high quality verticals for all the HF bands with all the associated hardware and accessories from an excellently equipped workshop and facilities to product test. Like myself Henry's background is also in Engineering and combined with my 40 years of amateur radio experience we intend to produce an exciting and expanding product range.
