Designer of wire loop antennas for hf and vhf. First licensed in 1968 as G8BLI, vhf only permit. Upgraded to G4HOL in 1978. Was also issued with ZB2HV for a short stay in Gibraltar. I am a life member of the Royal Signals Amateur Radio Society, having qualified to join as an Army reservist in a signal squadron, back in the seventies. Now active 160M to 70cm with a "shack in a box" FT-847. As back-up I use a Ten Tec Scout 555, which pokes out just 50 Watts. This rig runs on 160, 80, 40 and 20 Metres and is a menu free simple rig, an absolute joy to use ! Also have a separate 4 Metre rig: AKD 4001, 25 W FM, and an old FT-102. I am active on 5MHz, and read the RSGB news bulletin on Sundays at 12.30 local time on 5403.5MHz on a rota basis about once every six weeks. I try to encourage new blood to develop this fantastic hobby at every opportunity.
