I live on a working sheep farm in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales countryside some 25 miles Northwest of the city of Leeds at 135 feet above mean sea level.The buildings in the centre of the photograph above, is where I live. I qualified for my amateur licence passing the old format Radio Amateurs Examination (RAE) in 1988 from the Rotherham College of Arts & Technology in South Yorkshire. However before this time I was active in radio as a Short Wave Listener for many years.
Interests include antenna theory and building, HF Dx-ing, Propagation and operating my own Dxpeditions.
QRV on all HF Bands, 6 and 2 metres using SSB, CW & FM.
For HF I use Icom 756 Pro 3, DX88 ground mounted vertical with 17 underground radials and 6 elevated radials, 17 metre dipole, Icom IC 7000, MFJ 994 and 929 Auto Atu with Heil Pro Set HC4 Headset and Heil PR40 studio mic.
Antenna for 6 metres is a homebrew dipole in the loft. The antenna for 160 metres is a 130m Long Wire 10m above ground level and connected to a homebrew 6:1 UnUn orientated NW-SE.
For 2 Metres I use a Trio 9130 multimode and/or Icom IC 7000 to a 3-element homebrew ZL beam in the loft and for portable/SOTA use, I operate a Yaesu FT 817ND and Kenwood TH F7E dual band 2M/70cm handheld.
