Click for more detail... I've been licenced since 1989, but my interest was originally sparked a few years earlier when my Dad bought an old Heathkit HF receiver from Harold, G3LWK. I then got into lots of trouble with my Mum for lumps of wire hanging out of my bedroom window, and the funny hissing noises followed by loads of Donald Duck echoing through the bedroom door at all hours of the night! I went onto CB radio for a few years in the early 80s, and settled down to an evening course at a local school during 1988 with a couple of friends to get our tickets. We were successfully educated in the art of Amateur Radio by Dave, G3VYV. His party piece was demonstrating how capacitors worked using tinfoil sheets, a bin bag and a low voltage, high amp power supply! He was an amazing teacher who became a true friend over the years...he is sadly no longer with us. A great loss to his Family and all who knew him. I'm active on VHF, UHF and HF, including 5mHz, and use PSK31 occasionally. Until recently I also ran MB7IHB, a 2m Voice Internet Gateway working on IRLP and EchoLink. I packed that in when I moved house though. The next venture is to have a go at LEO sats I think... Lately I've become involved with ARISS (Amateur Radio on the International Space Station) and help provide audio feeds when possible for everyones listening pleasure! QSL via the Bureau (although direct is fine and always replied to), eQSL's are also happily accepted - but do send a real card as well! SWL reports are welcomed and will always receive a card back. So if you're collecting QSLs, and you've heard me around the bands, get a card off in the post! Member: RSGB, ARRL, AMSAT-UK, AMSAT-NA, ARISS, BOINC Alpha Team.
