First licensed in 1975 after being tutored through the Radio Amateur Examination by G3GVV, I had an early baptism of fire on HF, operating GB2IARU. Early operation under my own call was exclusively on 144MHz SSB, later adding 432MHz and then 50MHz when it became available. This was extended with the HF bands in 2003.

I am an active contest operator, ranging from small-scale portable activity for the RSGB Activity Contents to participating in the Reigate/Crawley team that occasionally wins VHF NFD. In my profile photo, I'm cranking up a 20m tower, with a 4x28 el 70cm array for VHF NFD.

Fixed station equipment:
  • FT-2000D - 200W
  • FT-736R - 144MHz: 100W - 432MHz 120W
  • 80m/40m Inv-V 20m/15m/10m Vertical WARC bands mag loop
  • 50MHz 2el 144MHz 9el 432MHz 48el
At the moment, much of my operation is /M on 20m, with frequent journeys from near Portsmouth on the south coast of England to West London:

20m /M Equipment:
  • FT-857D - 100W
  • Diamond mono-band 20m whip 1.5m long

73, Tim
