Click for more detail... The Swindon & District Amateur Radio Club are proud to announce their association with the Science Museum. After negotiation with the Science Museum, OFCOM and RSGB, it was agreed that the club could hold a 'Notice of Variation' against the club callsign G8SRC allowing the use of the special event callsign GB2SM, steeped in historical significance for the Science Museum at Kensington. The NoV allows the use of the callsign by the club at special events held by the Science Museum Swindon at their site at Wroughton, nr Swindon in Wiltshire. The call was first established by the RSGB at the Kensington site in 1955 where a permanent radio facility was established. Many thousands of visitors, amateurs and public alike, must have visited and indeed used the station during its thirty+ years of existence, and many amateurs rue its passing to this day. Our first event at Wroughton, the 'Heritage Weekender' took place on 8th/9th September 2007, and we worked over 300 amateurs operating primarily on 40m. QSL is via the bureau to our QSL manager, M5CBS. We will be active on the weekend of 12/13 September 2009 supporting the 'Festival of Innovation', and we hope to work you on the bands, or see you at the event. See the Science Museum website for further details. We will also be active on Twitter - follow 'SDARC' to get instant updates/frequencies and pictures (3G network depending!). We will also use the hashtag #GB2SM. Visit our club website at http://www.sdarc.net. where you can learn a little more about GB2SM and all the other club activities. M0XUK, Webmaster.
