The year-long event, known as IYA2009, was supported by UN, UNESCO, NASA and IAU. GB400IYA was an independent “IYA” awareness project, managed by active full members of the Norman Lockyer Observatory Society who are astronomers and full licensed radio amateurs. Please note that the Special Event Station had no connection with a radio group which meets at the Observatory.
