GB558VUL will be returing to the air from the 17th October 2015 to mark the end of flight for Vulcan Bomber XH558.
 
October 2015 will see the grounding of XH558 the last flying Vulcan Bomber, which is also the only all British 4 engined jet currently flying.
 
To mark this 'end of an era' event Yorkshire Amateur Radio Friends http://www.qrz.com/db/M0YRF  will be starting the call off from various locations near the Vulcan's base of operations at Roinhood Airport, near Doncaster, (formerly RAF Finningley) they will be active on as many bands as they can from HF through to 2m, conditions permitting.

First Activation12-14th July 2013 was from the

Aberdare & District ARS http://www.radioclubs.net/aadars/

 

Second Actvation was from near XH558's home with the Finningley Amateur Radio Society (FARS) http://www.g0ghk.co.uk

20th July to 4th August 2013

 

Third activation was from Northern Ireland 10/11th August 2013 based in Larne Co Antrim and was run by GEARS

(Greenisland Electrionics and Amateur Radio Society) this coincides with the first flight of a Vulcan over

Northern Ireland for nearly 30 years. We hope that XH558 made many new fans over the weekend.

 

Fourth Activation was run by NADARS ( www.nadars.org.uk ) members from the ATC Hall in Newbury,

on the 17th and 18th August 2013, and included many other activities, and an exhibition of Vulcan related items.

Members of the public were strongly encouraged to visit usat that location

From the 24th August until 1st September 2013 the callsignwas 'under the wing' of the Newbury and District Amateur Radio Society (NADARS) and operated by Jeremy - G4DOQ, Chairman of NADARS, from his home QTH in Newbury, see details on www.QRZ.com/db/G4DOQ

The call was then in Scotland for the 7th/8th September with the Dundee ARC, hoping to coincide with XH558's last apperarence at RAF Leuchars, this is the last year that Leuchars will be holding the airshow sadly. Even more saldy XH558 was grounded due to a fuel leak.

Final totals will be announced shortly and we expect to be well in excess of 3000 QSO's this year, Paper QSL's will be send out in the next few months, Mainly via the Bureau, but Direct to those from whom we have received their QSL and funding for the return postage.
