I joined my local Amateur Radio Club at the age of 12 having been interested in radio communications for many years. I was first licensed in 1986 and started work on my Morse Test which I successfully passed at 12WPM in January 1987.

My main interest has always been HF operation (CW & SSB), contesting and portable operation from various parts of the globe.  My main station consists of a FT1000MP Mark V (200 watt version), Vectronics Amplifier and Heil “Quiet Phone” headset with the DX insert.

QTH is located 200 feet above sea level in the hills behind the seaside town of Largs on the west coast of Scotland. It provides a good takeoff in most directions. My HF antennas are a Butternut HF9V, 14 AVQ and an inverted V for 40/80.

Although I mainly operate HF I do have 2mtrs, 70cm’s and D-Star. I also operate the Echolink node MB7INA which can be accessed on 145.2375Mhz. The node number is 293938.

I QSL 100% via the bureau. I am also available on LOTW and EQSL. I am a member of the RSGB, GMDX Group and SKCC #3843.

Liz, my XYL is also licensed and her callsign is MM3YPH.
