I'm virtually 100% CW and I'm active on all bands: 160M through to 4M.

I also take part in some of the bigger contests.

My Rig = K3 plus Acom 2000A amp 400 Watts: until 8 January 2015, I had a 2 el quad 10 through 20, doublet 2 x 20M 30 through 80 and a qtr wave inv L for 160 with poor ground. I also ran the K3 barefoot on 60M into either the doublet or inv L.

Unfortunately, on 8 January 2015, a 100 MPH storm blew my quad off the tower. The tree that supported the Inv-L was condemned and had to come down, so I just have the doublet for HF. Sadly, no 160 M at present.


I now have the parts to restore the quad but have decided to concentrate on 6 and 4M through the summer. I have a 5 el quad for 6 and a 6 el quad for 4M on the mast just now, that can be wound up to 50 ft.

On 6 and 4M I use the KX3 through a Mutech XVTR to drive the HA1YA amp to 150 Watts on 4 and about 200 Watts on 6. That saves me plugging and unplugging the K3.


I hope to get the HF quad back on air this Autumn and I may buy a suitable pole for an Inv-L for 60/160.

I'm a long standing member of FOC, GMDX, CDXC and RSGB plus the Edgware and West of Scotland clubs.

I used GA3WUX from August to December, 2009, and from 25 January until 30 November 2014.


I built my 4 and 6M Quads. The 4M antenna can be viewed on these two videos taken as I demonstrated it to my Club.
