Most of the time you hear GW3UOF/M it is from this exact position in the Brecon Beacons National Park at locator IO81GW, near the Visitors' Centre.
Usually on 6m or 17m cw with a Yaesu FT-857D running 100 watts to a Watson W-627 vhf/uhf tri-band vertical and a Hustler RM-17 mag-mounted. I use a dedicated 12 volt 45AH battery.
I have now added 2m /P when out mobile. I use a 3m high mast with 5 element ZL-special. The FT857D runs 10w to drive an old S.E.M. Sentinel amp at 100 watts output with a pre-amp giving an extra 10db gain.
The Peugeot 107 Verve number plate G3UOF is my original 1965 call, back in the R1155F receiver days!
In the background you can see the two peaks of Pen y Fan (886m) and Corn Du (873m).
Photo below shows GW3UOF/M location IO81FP looking north across Cwmparc/Treorchy.
Bwlch lay-by located on the A4107 road about 550m asl.
